I was recently triggered by a comment that was intended to be harmless: “Must be nice to do all this travelling; how do you find the time for real estate?”
My initial reaction was to get defensive, which quickly spiraled into a reflection on perception. If one person thinks this, how many others might? Cue the monkey mind: “Are peoplxe not choosing me as their realtor because I’m perceived as a ‘jet-setter’? Will they wonder if I’m really there for them?”
But after telling my ego and monkey mind to calm down and take a seat, it all boils down to three things for me:
- Travel opens my mind to new perspectives, allowing me to bring fresh ideas to my clients and colleagues.
- Stepping outside my comfort zone strengthens my character, drive, and determination.
- Expanding my network creates opportunities that ultimately benefit those around me.
So, yes—I will continue to travel.
I will keep putting myself in rooms with people who challenge me to grow.
I will surround myself with colleagues who support me as much as I support them.
And I will always show up for the clients I’m aligned with, who know that no matter how far I may be—I’ve got their back.
