Q: What is the story behind Stratton Homes? How long has your business been operating in Muskoka?

Stratton Homes has been in the works for a few years, defining our company vision, cultivating relationships, and developing our systems to ensure a strong company foundation. Through this process, we’ve developed a team with over 95 years of collective experience in building, project management, real estate development/sales, design, marketing as well as our personal real estate ventures. We are now actively building Stratton luxury homes with one sold and many more in the build and design phase! We look forward to finding the right people to make these houses home.

Q: What is your connection to the Huntsville community and the Muskoka region?

Stratton Homes has a deep connection to our community and the Muskoka region. Each member of our team, as well as all our trades, and subcontractor partnerships are local to Muskoka. A few of us are homegrown, while others have made the move here within the past few years. Huntsville has drawn us in and offers such spectacular beauty and opportunity for a nature-based lifestyle, so it has been an honour to be a part of the community while also inviting others to make it their home base as well.

Q: What types of projects does Stratton Homes specialize in?

We specialize in luxury homes with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability. Our incredible design team collaborates directly with Carolyn Wilbrink – co-host of HGTV Canada’s Farmhouse Facelift, ensuring our interior and exterior design packages are carefully curated. This allows us to focus on the additional steps to complete each home as if it were our own.

Q: Where did your passion for custom homes & cottages start?

Our vision is to build design-forward, immaculate, sustainable, quality homes, that live really well. Simply put, we’re passionate about creating beautiful homes. We’re good at it and if we’re going to put our names on it and stand behind it, then let’s build aww inspiring, really well-built homes. Each one is created with the same passion as a piece of art.

Q: Tell us more about the team that supports Stratton Homes?

Our team is made up of the most incredible people and trades, who, to their core, hold the same morals and values that our company strives to live by day in and day out. Together we have different skillsets and experiences, but our values align. Our trades are carefully selected for being the best in their fields, but we also take into account their families who are supported by the jobs we create. We are more than just a dream team – we are a family.

Q: How many projects has your company completed since inception?

We’re a start-up, founded by a team of driven professionals. Although our history as a company is brief, our individual credibility is respectable. As a team, we have completed one build, wrapping up our second, starting our third, and working on our fourth, and fifth builds all projected to be complete by the end of this year.

Q: What advice would you give to future clients or someone interested in building a custom home or cottage?

If you do build a custom home, plan it. Don’t put yourself in a position where you have to rush. Make ALL your selections before you break ground. When the build starts, make decisions fast to keep the momentum. Understand your payment structure and pay fast. Lastly, choose a builder you can trust to move forward with.

When it comes to Stratton Homes, we’re not so much custom builders who deal with clients from start to finish. With the level of home we’re building, we need to maintain control of our processes and then we wow potential buyers with a finished product they can touch and feel.

We work with our team of professionals to determine the best design, site plan, and finishings to suit the location. The final product has been fully landscaped, with decks and screen rooms complete. These homes are move-in ready and waiting to be enjoyed.

Q: What sets Stratton Homes apart from other custom builders in the Muskoka region?

We apply a systems-based approach in every aspect of the business and maintain a proactive management style. The benefit is fewer surprises to react to, which allows us to focus on being present and moving forward. It’s easy to get caught up in the reacting/problem-solving cycle and the upfront effort is immense, but the payback is felt in every facet of the business.

Q: Can you tell us about what community means to you?

We believe wholeheartedly in the power of community. It’s not just where you live, but who you live with and why you’ve chosen Huntsville. Being a small town we have the incredible honour of not just hiring local families as well as building houses for them, but we take pride in knowing that we support local initiatives, businesses, families and forests.

One of the key phrases we use in our interactions is “by lifting others we lift ourselves” – a quote shared with us by our CEO Kyle Newman and now fostered as a core value among our team.
